May is National foster care awareness month. During the month of May, SMA highlights collaborates and engages community stakeholders involved with the foster care system in Memphis and Shelby County. The agency produces awareness and educational events during this month to garner community involvement. The agency also presents appreciation events for foster parents, family members, volunteers, mentors, policymakers, child welfare professionals, and other members of the community who support children and youth in foster care. During National Foster Care Month, we renew our commitment to ensuring a bright future for the nearly 14, 000 children and youth in foster care in Shelby County, and we celebrate all those who make a meaningful difference in their lives.
